wow these are great tex!!! i think its always better to use photos though isnt it? because i guess there are distinctive shapes and reltionships that you cant make up...i dunno, i think work done from ref would always be better for that reason.
in terms of concepting, I'd rather not have to use a photo to do similar work. Of course reffed work will always be better, but I'd like to internalize information so that I can exponentially increase production efficiency :O

really nice studies man,where did you get the photos from?, it seems hard to find decent images that arnt photoshoped or to "artsy".
